4 Tips to clean your Diamond Engagement Ring

Buying a diamond engagement ring for your partner is an exciting and educating process. Especially if you are purchasing custom-made engagement rings because you want it to be as unique and as beautiful as her.

But what you might not consider is the day to day effect of wearing it. Obviously, engagement rings are designed to be worn every day. However, diamonds have a natural affinity with grease.

What happens is that on the hand, things like skin oil and hand cream, and just grime and dirt will build up on the surface of the stone and affect how beautiful that diamond can look.

Basically, the problem is surface grease allows light in the stone but not necessarily out and that effect means the diamond will diminish in sparkle.

Remember, once you’ve made the decision to buy the most beautiful diamond possible, keeping it looking its best is a must for such an investment.

There are three ways to keep your diamond engagement ring using products you probably have at home.

Method #1: Baking Soda

Baking soda, a mild and non-abrasive cleaning agent that is commonly used in cooking can be used to clean all different types of gemstones and metals.

The first step is to grab your baking soda and pour it into a small bowl. Then take some warm water and pour it into the bowl. Mix until you get a paste consistency.

Take your ring and rub the paste all around the stone and the setting. Finally, wash the paste off with water and dry it off with a lint-free cloth. Depending how much dirt there is clinging on your ring, you may need to reapply the paste again.

Make sure to use a lint-free cloth to make sure the fibre doesn’t stick to your ring.

Method #2: Soap Detergent

Another way to clean diamond ring is by using a dishwashing detergent.

Mix one part dishwashing soap with three parts warm water. Use a soft bristle toothbrush. Make sure it’s soft bristle because you don’t want tiny scratches on the ring.

Take your ring and brush the solution all over the stone and the band. Make sure to get in all the nooks and crannies. This is a great way to get rid of lotion, oil, and general grime.

If your ring is really dirty, let it sit in the solution overnight, otherwise, rinse it off with water. Dry it off and polish with a lint-free cloth.

Method #3: Ammonia

The third way to clean your engagement ring at home is to use straight ammonia, which is an effective method to bring out the shine in any metal and precious stone. Create a solution with three parts warm water and one part straight ammonia.

Submerge the ring in the solution for three to five minutes. Take your ring out of the solution and dry it with a lint-free cloth. You’ll instantly notice how your ring beautifully catches the light after you polished.

Use one of these three ways to clean your ring at home once a week to keep your diamond clean and sparkly.

Normally most people use this trick to clean their diamond engagement ring i.e making a solution with dishwashing soap and warm water (almost hot) after that give your ring a 40 minute soak, then use a very soft toothbrush to gently scrub the stone before rinsing it under warm running water. “Repeat if necessary.”

We always recommend to use expert opinion to clean your diamond engagement rings.
