Your personal Monty Adams Concierge will visit at a location and time convenient to you to discuss the overall look and vision for your dream ring. From setting and metal choices to diamond and gemstone selections, we can help you navigate the choices including budget and lifestyle considerations. At Monty Adams Jewellery, the timeline for the initial design stage can be as personalised as the ring itself! We work at a pace you’re comfortable with ensuring an enjoyable and stress-free process. Here is the process of how to design your custom engagement ring:
1. Book a consultation appointment with us.
2. Think about the overall style and shape of the ring you envision and any special touches to be included. Have any important references with you.
3. Choose your diamond or gemstones and which metal you want.
4. Discuss any timeline or budget considerations that are important.
Bringing your custom, one-of-a-kind engagement ring to life typically takes 3-6 weeks depending on the intricacy level of the ring, material availability and the type of make chosen. If it hasn’t already been completed as part of your design consultation, an assessment of your design will be carried out to determine whether a handmake or computer-aided design (CAD) will be best for your individual circumstances. Here is a behind-the-scenes look into the production process for CAD designs:
1. For designs using CAD, this is the first step in the production process. A scaled technical drawing is created, marrying the ring’s design and structural components.
2. From there you can review the rendered images, give feedback on the initial design, and make adjustments if needed.
3. Your ring is cast in your chosen metal and the mount is given to the jeweller for a stringent quality assurance check before further work is carried out.
4. The jeweller then hand assembles the individual pieces and manually finishes the casting to the perfect size and shape.
5. Your chosen diamond or gemstone, and any other accent stones, are then expertly set into your ring before the jeweller gives your ring its final polish and check to ensure it looks perfect for your proposal.
The final step is getting your custom engagement ring delivered. Depending on the delivery method and location, this can take up to two weeks. If you are in a rush to get your ring for your special day, make sure your Monty Adams Jewellery Concierge knows when you need the ring, to ensure that your order arrives on time.

Custom ring costs vary greatly depending on design complexities, carat, metal and side stones, diamond or gemstone choice and metal selection. The average custom ring setting cost in Melbourne is:
The wealth of choices, considerations and ranges can often be overwhelming. Our expert concierge service will guide you through the process, advising you on budget dependant factors while considering your and your partner’s desires.
The main things you should not do while wearing your engagement ring and times you should take your engagement ring off include:
Swimming & Water activities.
Although top-quality engagement rings are waterproof or water-resistant, chlorine and other chemicals can affect, tarnish and erode the engagement ring material and metal alloys. For example, with white gold engagement rings, the chlorine will degrade the rhodium, turning it yellow.
Imagine losing your engagement ring in the ocean. That is a lot of ground to cover. If your ring becomes lubricated and falls off while swimming or on the beach, finding it could be difficult, and your engagement ring may be lost to you forever.
Put your ring away and have a fun, water-tastic day!
Applying hand lotions
Applying hand lotions and other creams, such as suntan lotion, can leave a residue and product build-up, which over time, impacts your ring’s durability and appearance. Chemicals and oils in beauty products are absorbed by your engagement ring, which can change the way your diamond sparkles and shines, leaving it dull and discoloured. Exfoliants and scrubs are the worse culprits that wear down and discolour your gemstone and dull your gorgeous gem’s shine.
Pearls and opals are particular victims of discolouration from hand lotions, and gold, silver and platinum engagement bands will eventually lose lustre. Diamonds can absorb oils, become loose, and fall off your engagement ring. Don’t let your engagement lose its sparkle. Take them rings off before applying lotions!
Garden
Gardening good for the soul, bad for the engagement ring. You do not want dirt and soil getting into your ring’s small crevices. And talking of small crevices, that is precisely where your ring or diamond may fall, lost to you forever, back to the earth where it came from.
Doing the dishes
Chemicals, Garbage disposal, down the drain. That is where your money can end up going if you wear your ring whilst doing the dishes. Take it off, and have a small place to keep when tidying up. Feel a wash of relief.
Cooking
We have all heard the horror stories of losing your ring in the cooking and small sticky bits of food like dough and syrups ending up between prongs and crevices. Take it off and store it somewhere safe to avoid American Pie: The wedding. The sequel.
Operating Machinery
Australia has some amazing tradies, lorry drivers and machinery operators. If you work in an industry that requires you to operate machinery or work with your hands, your engagement ring could become damaged. Taking off your ring isn’t always fun, but sometimes it is necessary.
Sleep
Now that you have found your dream engagement ring don’t lose it while snoozing. Prongs can get caught in your hair, and you can lose your ring in the bedding. It isn’t pretty, and it certainly isn’t romantic. Pop your engagement ring somewhere safe for a great night’s sleep and peace of mind.
