It is not only durable, but its elegant finish makes it a popular choice. A more budget-friendly option and the most popular setting are white, yellow, and rose gold engagement rings.

If you love the appeal of white metals, white gold is the choice for you as this will significantly reduce the price tag.

Understand The Four C’s

Cut

The cut of a diamond refers to the position and proportions of its facets or surfaces to create optimum sparkle. When purchasing a diamond, cut is often the most important of the 4c’s as it is primarily responsible for the stone’s brilliance. That’s why it is important to get a stone with the best possible cut grade within your budget, even if this mean scaling down or compromising on the diamond’s clarity, colour and carat weight.

Colour

Colour refers to the level of colourlessness of a diamond. The absence of colour in a stone is rare and as a result more valuable and expensive. When purchasing an affordable engagement ring, clients often opt for a near colourless grade to allow for more of their budget to go towards the diamonds cut for optimum sparkle and brilliance. Your assigned personal jewellery concierge will help you make the best decision for your individual budget.

Clarity

A diamonds clarity refers to the absence of blemishes or inclusions in the stone. There are 6 grades of clarity varying from included (I1, I2, I3) through to flawless (FL). The less inclusions a diamond has, the more expensive it will be. Often clients wanting an affordable engagement ring go for an SI1 or SI2 grade (slightly included). This grade is often the best value as the inclusions are only noticeable at 10x magnification however it is important to consider the shape of the diamond you are purchasing as their specific cut will also influence how visible the inclusions are.

Carat

The term carat refers to the weight of a diamond, however the larger the carat weight doesn’t necessarily mean the more expensive and valuable. For example, a smaller diamond with a Flawless clarity grade and Ideal cut will be more expensive than a bigger diamond with a low-grade cut. Another point to note is if you are wanting a larger diamond, scaling back the weight by just a fraction of a carat (0.9ct instead of 1ct), will save you money and therefore making it more affordable.
