2018: The Year of Fast Engagements

From Hailey and Justin to Ariana and Pete, fast celebrity engagements seem to be “in” this year. If you follow celebrity news, you know that celebs fall in and out of love pretty quickly. Some date for years and others encounter whirlwind romances that lead to secret weddings. 

Despite the recent trend of celebrities turning a “casual” relationship into a not-so-casual lifetime commitment, fast engagements are by no means the norm. Take a look at some of these 2018 quick celeb engagements that left everyone in shock:

Nick Jonas and Priyanka Chopra

Despite their 11-year age gap, Nick and Priyanka proved to the world that age is just a number. The beautiful pair sparked dating rumours back when they arrived hand-in-hand at last year’s MET Gala.

The two have been tabloid darlings ever since they have been seen stepping out for frequent nights out. Despite that, they’ve shut down dating rumours for the most part of 2017.

But just recently, they finally ended the speculations by making it Instagram official that they’ve finally decided to take their relationship to the next level.

Ariana Grande and Pete Davidson

If you’ve been following Ari’s Insta, chances are you were speechless when you saw their matching tattoos and the additional Ari-inspired ink Pete got a couple of weeks later. In hindsight, though, the tattoos were hardly the most shocking thing to come out of their month(ish)-long relationship.

The couple got engaged in June 2018. It was crazy quick alright so it makes sense that the wedding would follow suit, but, rumours say otherwise. There have been speculations that they’ve already set a date for the big day, Aug 4th, in honour of Pete’s Dad.

Who knew that this was a thing? This celeb engagement totally caught everyone off-guard. The two dated for a bit back in 2015 but Justin quickly dismissed the rumours by dating his on-again, off-again ex-gal, Selena Gomez. Fast-forward to May 2018, after making #Jailey IG official, the “Baby” singer decided to pop the question and, of course, Hailey said yes!

In retrospect, marriage can be a lot of work, and getting an engagement after a short, brief relationship may put you on the spot for the realities of the married life. This is not to say that quick engagements are bound for failure but requires a great deal of critical thought – and that, too, can take a while.

At the end of the day, love is all that matters and an engagement is a signal that a relationship has transformed from private passion to a more formal, visible bond. Before making any commitments, just consider the timing, the person and to not make any rash decisions. Once you’ve been able to settle that out, plan the perfect surprise, show her/him how much they mean to you and finally…put a ring on it! ????
